Our records show that as of Mission 18 HFHTVA has escorted 1,485 Veterans to our Nation’s capital
since our first mission in May 2009. A
closer look at the numbers revealed 2017 was the first year WWII Veterans
weren’t the majority on each trip. Korean
War Veterans held a slight majority on Mission 17 and Vietnam War Veterans were
the overwhelming majority on Mission 18. We believe this shift in the demographics signals we have achieved our
original goal of assisting all local WWII Veterans who were willing and able to
visit the National WWII Memorial. With
this in mind we are announcing our 2018 missions (Mission 19 and Mission 20) will
be our last.
A recent update to Honor Flight Network policy now allows us to include "tweeners" . . . those are Veterans that served between WWII and the Korean War (1 Jan 47 - 24 Jun 50) and between the Korean War and the Vietnam War (1 Feb 55 - 27 Feb 61). We are NOW accepting applications for HFHTVA Mission 19.
HFHTVA would like to thank all of the businesses and individuals who provided either in-kind or monetary donations to support our program - these trips are not possible without your extremely generous contributions. Again, thank you to all for helping us make this such a wonderful experience for our World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans!
Would you like to travel or participate on a future HFHTVA trip? For those World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans that have not yet participated in one of our Honor Flights, we hope you will consider applying by completing and sending in your signed application by either fax or mail. And the best part? The cost to the Veteran is $0.00 (zero)! That's right . . . Veterans travel for FREE!! Terminally ill Veterans are also given special consideration, but condition must be confirmed by a licensed physician.
Veteran applications are available for download from the "Veterans Applications" page of this website (CLICK HERE
). Guardian applications to escort the veterans on the trip are available for download from the "Guardian Applications" page of this website (CLICK HERE
