Subject: MOAA Distinguished Service Award
Dear Hub Leaders,
In a letter from Steve Abbot, Admiral, USN (Ret.), Chairman of the Board of MOAA, dated January 18, 2012, I was informed of the following;
"On behalf of the more than 370,000 members of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), it is my great pleasure to inform you that MOAA's Board of Directors has selected the Honor Flight Network to receive the 2012 MOAA Distinguished Service Award for your outstanding support of the military community through continued efforts to bring veterans to Washington, DC, to view the various war memorials."
On April 17, 2012 I had the privilege of accepting the MOAA Distinguished Service Award in Washington DC on behalf of the Honor Flight Network.
Five awards were given altogether and the Honor Flight Network was chosen as one of two organizations that are not members of Congress seen by the MOAA members as providing a service to our veterans. It is quite a prestigious award and we received it because of what all of you do for our WWII heroes.
The award itself is a beautiful crystal eagle that is being displayed in our HQ office in Springfield.
Congratulations to all of you and to all of your volunteers!
Here is a link to the MOAA website and the announcement of the awards in their monthly news letter: http://www.moaa.org/main_secondary.aspx?id=9474
Thank you all for what you do,
The Honor Flight Network
